Owners Hugh and Sherri both have visual arts backgrounds and both hold BFA's in Photography from Ryerson University and OCAD University respectively. Sherri also has a BA with a specialization in Classics and a minor in Art & Design, and an MA in Classics (Classical Art and Archaeology). She has participated in archaeological excavations in Italy, requiring great attention to detail in terms of the care, safe handling, and preservation of ancient artifacts which is also relevant to the handling of artwork.
Hugh's education at Ryerson University included several courses focused on photography technology, where he learned in depth about the materiality and safe handling of different types of photographs. Further workshops at Ryerson University included conservation matting of photographs, which led Hugh to develop an interest in framing his own artwork back in the day. The Mira Godard Study Centre collection of photographs within the School of Image Arts at Ryerson was a valuable educational exposure to best practices within an art collection. Subsequent employment as Photography Technician at Ontario College of Art & Design University expanded Hugh's knowledge base pertaining to the care and safe handling of photographs, paintings and works on paper. Here Hugh also gains 15 years of large format archival inkjet printing experience. Hugh's personal artwork can be viewed at: hughmartin.ca
